Ryan Brinson

The top sophomore tailback I saw in the state of Ohio last season, Ryan Brinson from Canton McKinley High School.

Position: Running Back

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 170 pounds

40 Time: 4.5 seconds

High School: Canton McKinley

Notes:

Ryan Brinson was the top sophomore tailback I saw in state last season, even better than Dayton C-J's Javon Ringer (who i thought was awesome still). Some feel that Brinson may not grow into a college sized tailback and that could be true. I am not very psychic afterall. Personally though, I would hate to see a guy that looks Barry Sandersish get converted to a safety or corner just because of his size.

Ryan will be one of the top 5 players in the upcoming junior class in Ohio and he should be on nearly all the early top 100 lists as well. Most players of his ability that go to such a traditional power like Canton McKinley aren't starved for national recognition.

I only saw Ryan Brinson play once last season and I was sold from the first couple of carries. His ability to make people miss in the open field is mind boggling, but that isn't what he is best at. He has the innate ability to make tacklers miss in the hole. That is what coaches call having good vision and that is what is going to make him a superstar someday. By the way, the team i saw him against wasn't a bunch of chumps either, it was Warren Harding (though Prescott Burgess was still nursing a shoulder injury that Delbert Ferguson gave him earlier in the season).

Some people may criticize Brinson for his size, and they have a point. Then again, he was only a sophomore in high school last season and he probably has some more growth in him. Last I heard Ryan was approximately 5'10" and 170 pounds, so like I said the size is a legitimate concern here at this early stage. One thing that isn't a concern though is his toughness. I have several video clips of Ryan Brinson dragging 2 or 3 Warren Harding tacklers for a couple of extra yards. Also, Brinson isn't affraid to take the hit like some smaller backs. He honestly gives as much of a hit as he gets most of the time.

Another thing that shouldn't be a concern with Ryan Brinson is the academics. I saw an interview with him once and was impressed with his speaking ability. I don't know what types of grades he is bringing home and I doubt that he has even taken an ACT or SAT yet either. Regardless, Ryan is a bright young man who has a good future ahead of him with or without football.

As for what college Ryan is looking at, it is way too early to guess here. With the Canton Mckinley connection going on at Ohio State, you would think the Buckeyes would be a big leader early on in the process, but you never know. Antonio Hall was a big offensive line prospect out of the same school that chose Kentucky of all places for their music program. Hopefully the Buckeye coaching staff is all over Mckinley these next two years scouting out Brinson. In my opinion, he is the best football player in Stark County next year regardless of age.

Anyways, if anyone out there wants to see a tailback with some serious moves, make sure you check out the Bulldogs this year at least once. You won't be disappointed by Brinson no matter how the rest of the team is playing.
